About the Doctor
Whether
you have routine or complex dental needs, you won't find a more qualified
dentist than Dr. David Fox.
Advanced University Training
After
becoming a dentist he completed four additional years of university
approved, full time, advanced post-doctoral training. This included
advanced
training in general and hospital dentistry, as well as earning
dual
specialty certificates in both prosthodontics and periodontics. Only a
handful of dentists in the world hold dual specialty certification in these
areas.
Continual student
Like
most dentists, he has enhanced his formal professional education by taking
continuing education courses to stay up to date. He was awarded
Fellowship
in the Academy of General Dentistry after completion of his first 500
hours of continuing education and passing a day-long written examination (only 2
percent of dentists in the United States earn this award).
Dr. Fox continually
updates his knowledge by taking courses around the country. Since
completion of specialty training, Dr. Fox has amassed
over
2,800 fully accredited hours of additional continuing education.
Teacher
and clinician
Dr.
Fox has served as teacher for over twenty years on the faculty of three
different dental schools and two hospital based training programs. He has trained dental students and dentists in
advanced general and hospital dentistry, taught dentists to become specialists
in periodontics and prosthodontics, and
has conducted continuing
education courses for other dentists around the
country. A number of his former students have become university dental
school educators. He has served as a consulting specialist (to the State Board of Dentistry,
insurance companies, professional organizations, dentists, attorneys, industry, and the general public).
He
is a member of many professional organizations.
Among these is the prestigious American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics - the highest national recognition for dentists who have made exceptional
contributions to advancing the specialty of fixed prosthodontics through
teaching, publication, and superior patient care. Membership in this
organization is a honor bestowed only after careful evaluation of professional
credentials and accomplishments.
Advanced Training & Licensure in Conscious Sedation
Advertisements for oral sedation dentistry have
become common in the past few years. Most dentists who advertise such
services have little more training or education than a three day lecture
course. Serious complications, including death, have occurred in
patients who have been improperly sedated or monitored by inadequately trained
dentists.
Dr. Fox, however, has extensive advanced
training in conscious sedation with oral, inhaled, or intravenous drugs and in
management of medical emergencies. His advanced education in these areas
includes hundreds of hours of supervised experience and education during his
hospital and university based training.
Dr. Fox's office, credentials, sedation
protocols and sedation methods have passed rigorous inspection by the
Pennsylvania Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Office Anesthesia
Evaluation Program. He is one of fewer than forty dentists providing
restorative or periodontal care in Pennsylvania to be awarded the
Pennsylvania Anesthesia Permit and License for Conscious Sedation by the
Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry - having been so licensed since 1989.
The doctor is certified in both Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support by the
American Heart Association, and renews this certification every two years.
Dr. Fox also takes 15 to 30 hours of additional continuing education in
emergency medicine, anesthesia and sedation every two years to ensure his
patients have access to safe, modern methods of sedation for their dental
care.
Dentists have voted to include Dr.
Fox as one of "The Best Dentists in America"
The
Best Dentists in America
has included Dr. Fox in annual editions since
2004. This directory is published by Woodward/White, which has been
publishing highly regarded referral lists of lawyers and physicians for over twenty-five
years. Listings in this directory can not be purchased, and no payment is
required to be listed.
Inclusion is based
solely on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which 9,680 leading dentists
throughout the United States were polled on the abilities of other dentists in
general and specialty practice. Of 140,000 practicing dentists in the
country, only the top 5% (7,147 dentists) were selected for this directory.
Dr. Fox was
honored to be listed as one of the best dentists in America among
specialists in prosthodontics, as well as those in periodontics. Few
dentists have achieved this distinction - while only a handful are listed in more
than one category.
Dentistry
for the Quality Conscious

a special interest in bringing the latest advances in dentistry to patients, Dr.
Fox has cared for quality conscious people from all walks of life

difficult clinical problems. He is available for coordinated therapy
with other dental professionals, private consultation with colleagues
regarding their patients, second opinions, or management of referred patients
- either for comprehensive care or isolated procedures.
Anyone who
wants to explore the option of becoming a patient (with or without a dentist's

is welcome to call our office (215-481-0441) for an appointment.
While Away from the Office ...
While away from clinical practice, Dr. Fox is largely occupied with family, exercise, community service, volunteer work for professional organizations, reading,
viola playing, chamber music, orchid tending, culinary arts, photography, and living fully.
